How to turn off YouTube Shorts

YouTube’s Help Center describes no setting that removes Shorts altogether. The closest is a Shorts feed limit of zero: in the YouTube app, tap You, then Settings, then Time management, then Shorts feed limit, and choose zero. When you reach the limit, YouTube shows a reminder you can dismiss. To see fewer Shorts on your Home feed, tap More on a grid of Shorts and choose Show fewer Shorts.

Set your Shorts feed limit to zero

  1. Sign in to the YouTube app.
  2. Tap the You tab, then Settings.
  3. Tap Time management, then Shorts feed limit.
  4. Choose a limit. The list includes zero.

When you reach your limit in the Shorts feed, a message reminds you, and you can dismiss it or ignore the limit.

Limit Shorts for a teen

In January 2026, YouTube announced a control that lets parents of supervised teen accounts set how much time their teen can spend scrolling Shorts, and said parents would soon be able to set that timer to zero.

What these settings don’t do

  • A Shorts feed limit reminds you rather than locks you out: you can dismiss the reminder and keep watching.
  • Show fewer Shorts lowers how many Shorts YouTube recommends on pages such as Home and Watch Next; it doesn’t remove them.
