How to turn off active status on Instagram

Go to your profile, tap the menu in the top right, then below How others can interact with you, tap Messages and story replies, then Show Activity Status, and turn the toggle off. People you follow and anyone you message then stop seeing when you were last active, and you stop seeing anyone else’s Activity Status.

Turn off your Activity Status

  1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap Menu in the top right.
  3. Below How others can interact with you, tap Messages and story replies.
  4. Tap Show Activity Status.
  5. Tap the toggle next to Show Activity Status to turn it off.

What Activity Status shows

While it’s on, people you follow and anyone you message see when you were last active, or that you’re active now. In messaging, an indicator or a timestamp of when you were last active shows next to your profile picture.

What you stop seeing

Turning it off works both ways: you won’t see when your followers or the people you message are active, were recently active or are in the same chat as you, and you won’t see anyone else’s Activity Status. You can turn it back on at any time.
