How to get clients for social media marketing

The best social media clients already spend on marketing and still have a gap you can fix. Find them in public data: search Meta’s Ad Library for your niche’s words to see which businesses are paying for ads right now, check its branded content for brands paying creators, then read each one’s own posts for what isn’t working. Open with one specific finding, not a pitch. Referrals and your network still matter; this is how you fill the list when they run out. Or ask Oneirosea to build the list in one prompt.

Look for a budget and a gap

  • A budget: they already pay for ads or creators, so marketing has a line in their spending.
  • A gap: their own posts lag behind their ads, come rarely, or never beat their usual numbers.
  • A niche you know, so your first message sounds like an insider’s.

Find businesses that already pay for ads

  1. Open the Meta Ad Library at facebook.com/ads/library, set the country and choose All ads.
  2. Search the words your niche uses, in quotes to match the phrase, such as "refillable skincare". Every advertiser in the results is paying for ads now.
  3. Note each ad’s start date: an advertiser whose ads have run for months is spending steadily.
  4. For B2B clients, search LinkedIn’s Ad Library by keyword and narrow it by country.

Find brands that pay creators

The Meta Ad Library also keeps branded content: Facebook and Instagram posts with a paid partnership label, from August 17, 2023 on, each naming the creator and the brand partner. Open Branded content, choose Instagram and search a brand you know in your niche to see the creators it pays.

Then search those creators: the other brands they work with are your next prospects, and every one of them already spends on social.

Check their own posts for the gap

For each business on your list, open its Instagram or TikTok and read its last 20 to 30 posts: how often it posts, and its median views or likes. On Instagram, About this account also shows when the account joined and links to its active ads.

  • Ads running, but its own posts rarely beat their median.
  • Posting has slowed or stopped.
  • One format clearly wins, and it barely uses it.
  • Its competitors post on a platform it doesn’t.

Open with a finding, not a pitch

“I can grow your socials” reads like every other message. One specific finding reads like work already started:

  • Your Reels that open with the product in hand get four times your usual views, and you’ve posted two this month.
  • Your competitor has run the same unboxing ad since March, while yours change every week.
  • Three creators who post about your category have never worked with you, and one already tags you.

Keep it short: the finding, an offer of the full audit, and one question. Send a few a day by hand before you scale anything, because who you write to matters more than how you word it.

A prospect list in one prompt

Oneirosea works like ChatGPT for social media, answering from live public data. Describe the clients you want and it searches the Meta and LinkedIn ad libraries for businesses advertising in that niche, reads their Instagram, TikTok or YouTube posts, and finds where their own content falls short of its best: each prospect with an ad, a post and a finding to open with.

Prompt
Find ten skincare brands running Meta ads in the US right now, then check each one’s Instagram: how often it posts and whether its recent posts beat its usual numbers. For each, give me one ad, one post and one finding I could open a pitch with.

When one replies, audit their account in full before the call.

Common questions

How do I get my first social media marketing client?

Pick a niche you know, find ten businesses in it that already run ads, read their own posts for a gap, and send each a short message with one specific finding. Ask your network and past colleagues too.

Where do social media managers find clients?

Through referrals and their network first, then in public data: the Meta and LinkedIn ad libraries show which businesses already pay for marketing, and the Meta Ad Library’s branded content shows which pay creators.

How do I find clients for my SMMA?

Choose a niche, use the Meta Ad Library to list the businesses in it that are advertising now, check their own posts for a gap, and open with that gap rather than a pitch.

Should I offer a free social media audit?

A short one: one finding in the first message, and the full audit when they reply. It shows you understand their account before they’ve paid you anything.

Can I see how much a business spends on ads?

Not for ordinary ads in the Meta Ad Library, which shows the creative, the Page and the start date but no spend. An ad that has run for months is a sign of steady spending.
